From the moment one beholds “Les Deux Amis,” a serene yet spirited scene unfolds: the gentle interplay between man and horse, captured in exquisite detail and rendered with a warmth that transcends the medium. Executed by Coussons in an edition of only 80, this particular impression, numbered 24/80, echoes a timeless devotion to the equestrian form. The soft gradations in the etching evoke a sense of calm intimacy, inviting the viewer into a private world where courage and companionship fuse in a single tender moment. Whether displayed as the centerpiece of a refined collection or as the crowning accent in a carefully curated room, this artwork radiates an ineffable charm that beckons both novice admirers and seasoned connoisseurs alike.
Further enhancing its allure is the masterful presentation: a richly figured burl wood frame that envelops the etching with a naturally occurring tapestry of swirling grain. This warm-toned border is elegantly complemented by the woven matting, whose subtle nod to handwoven textiles infuses the piece with a distinct sense of artisanal craftsmanship. The overall effect is an arresting harmony of texture, color, and sentiment—an homage to the art of living as much as it is to the art of collecting. Owning “Les Deux Amis” is to invite a moment of quiet splendor into one’s own personal gallery, a testament to the enduring bond between humankind and the majestic animals who share our world.
